Which is why I’ve dropped all these .gifs I just made from the Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer here. SO HYPE! (Your regularly scheduled .gifs of FWD cars doing improbable things will return shortly.)

The graphics look stunning. I’ve always enjoyed the Mass Effect series. Maybe more than Halo, even.

Again, even! (Speaking of the SR-1, though, one of my favourite things about the Tempest is the SR-1-esque paintjob. It was always my favourite.)

It looooks sooo cool! And yeah, I’m actually a Halo fan too, but Mass Effect is much more my sort of thing - I love ‘dem dialogue trees! - so, to say I’m hyped would be something of an understatement.

The sad thing is, I actually just upgraded mine and I still feel like I should get in on that hot GTX 1080 action...

Honestly, the 1080 would be overkill unless you have a top-of-the-line i7 in there.

It’s not top of the line - that’d be that new i7-6950X deca-core monstrosity - but my i7-6700K ain’t too shabby for a gaming rig.

Oh yeah, I was referring to the realistic top. The Extremes are mostly just e-peen extensions anyways, unless the person is streaming/recording 4k or doing some sort of graphical work. 6700k would be plenty.

I just got an xps 15 with a 6700hq and a 960m which is what I think would hold me back. I need a proper desktop.

If you’re seriously into PC gaming, a desktop’s kinda the only way to go, for the cost savings - being able to just mix and match parts really pays off over the years - if nothing else.
That said, as laptops go, that XPS 15 ain’t exactly shabby—I reckon you’ll probably be able to run the game at medium, maybe with a few settings turned down to low if you’re after a higher frame-rate. And you get to enjoy that lovely near bezel-less display.

Yah, first time I’ve gone i7 instead of i5. I like my processors to last me - my old i5-2500k kept up with every game I threw at it for about five years - and games seem to actually be utilising hyperthreading these days, so an i7 seemed the way to go.
Probably help with VR when I eventually put out the cash for a headset, too. That new Star Trek game - JJVerse aside - looks pretty sweet...

Not bad. I have an i7-4790k in my PC.
Now all I need is monies for the GTX1080.

Such expense... But such graphics!

It might just be able to run Minecraft at a sustained 30FPS!

Hey now, let’s not go crazy here! (For real, heavily modded Minecraft servers can eat computers for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desert, tea...)

I bought it for school when it released in the fall and have been slowly moving away from consoled to pc. It is rather competent and can run the witcher 3 at 1080p medium settings and get 50+ fps. The 960m is really a low end card performance wise. I do want to build a desktop but I am a broke college student and can’t afford it.

I’m in uni, too, but I’ve been a PC gamer basically all my life, and if you just can’t really wrap your head around the idea of not having a desktop PC, you end up making sacrifices in other areas to keep one going, y’know?

I don’t own a desktop in any form so I would be starting from scratch.

Yeah, that’s the thing: once you’ve made the initial investment, it’s relatively easy to just keep one going over the years. I’ve actually never outright bought a new desktop—it’s been an ongoing evolution from our old family PC, basically. Everything’s been replaced several times over at this point, but there’s never been a clean break from one PC to another.

Once I get out of school I am going to make the $1000 or so investment into a good desktop but I don’t have the ability to now.

Death to the Mako! (seriously, that’s what happens whenever I tried to fight in it. Easier to get out and fight on foot).

“Metaphorically”
Right. That. Not the other thing. That’d be weird.

Welp, looks like I’m stuck with a 980M for a while until MSi releases an MXM 1080 of sorts. But it’s been a reliable workhorse for a year now - capable of running FFXIV on ultra without breaking a sweat.
